Rooting Instructions

  • Modifying / replacing your phone's software may void the phone's warranty and may render phone to 'brick' status - meaning your phone will not be worth much more than a brick. 
  • Rooting a phone is entirely at your own risk. No one affiliated with ROMWarez is responsible for your decision to root your phone.
  • Unlocking the bootloader on most phones will automatically wipe all data.
  • Always backup your current Apps/Data/SMS Messages before performing any type of rooting procedure. Find these backup apps on Google Play.

Rooting Phone
  • Download and install Motorola USB Drivers. 
  • Download and extract Root Tool to desktop.
  • Download SuperSU.zip file to the Root Tool folder. 
  • Install RootChecker from Google Play.
  • Go to Motorola website and follow instructions on unlocking bootloader.
  • Go to CWM/TWRP Recovery for Moto X to download latest recovery. 
  • Copy recovery file to fastboot folder downloaded in earlier step. 
  • Enable USB debugging: Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Development
  • Enable Unknown Sources: Menu --> Settings --> Security --> Unknown Sources
  • Connect phone to computer via USB data cable.
  • From the RootTool/fastboot folder, double click on the Open Command Prompt.
  • Type in the following: fastboot flash recovery PutNameOfRecoveryFilenameHere.img.
  • Type in the following: adb push SuperSU.zip /sdcard/ 
  • Power off phone and boot into recovery mode using instructions below.
  • You should now see either CWM or TWRP recovery depending on which recovery you’ve installed.  If using CWM recovery, use 'install zip' menu to find the SuperSU zip file downloaded in earlier step and use 'install' option for TWRP.  Then install/flash the SuperSU zip file.
  • After SuperSU is flashed, reboot phone.
  • Start RootChecker on your phone (installed in earlier step) to verify root privileges. If phone is rooted, phone should display below screen shot:

Key Combinations:

Booting into Recovery Mode:
Volume Up + Volume Down + Power 
Press and hold these buttons for at least three seconds and then release.
Boot Menu will be displayed. 
Volume Down will scroll. Volume Up will select. 
Using the Volume Down, scroll to 'Recovery' and then press Volume Up
When Android icon is displayed, press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down for five seconds and then press the Power button (continuing to press the Volume buttons.
